- Upgrading is available from Bill Smith
- The max level the item can be upgraded to is +10
- The probability to upgrade an item goes down after each successful upgrade
- You can only upgrade weapons and armor. Gloves and shoes cannot be upgraded
- When upgrading, the item can be successful, fixed or fail(will explain in a bit).
- The items needed to upgrade are cella, soul gem, whole soul gem and gold.
Soul Gems are also refined from Gillion Stones but are less common than Cella.
Whole Soul Gems can be made by purchasing gem/crystal/cellon production tools from Raul.
All 3 of these items are commonly sold in the private shop area.
Above is a picture of my Siege Bow. It's been upgraded a total of 5 times(circled in red). Also, you can see that a certain percentage has been added to the damage(circled in blue). With armor, a percentage is added to the defense stats.
Risks of Upgrading
Now that that's over, let's discuss the risks of upgrading. When upgrading the item has a % chance at success, fixed, and failure. When the item is successful, a % will be added to the item, strengthening it. If the item is fixed, you won't be able to upgrade it anymore. When the item fails, it will be destroyed. Here's a chart listing the chances for upgrading.
Side Note: After +7, it will no longer show the chances of success, fixed and failure.
Upgrade | Success Rate | Fixed | Failure Rate | Cella Powder | Gem | Gold | +% |
+1 | 100% | 0% | 0% | 20 | Soul Gem x1 | 500 | +10% |
+2 | 100% | 0% | 0% | 50 | Soul Gem x1 | 1,500 | +15% |

+4 | 80% | 15% | 5% | 120 | Soul Gem x2 | 10,000 | +32% |
+5 | 60% | 20% | 20% | 160 | Soul Gem x3 | 30,000 | +43% |
+6 | 40% | 20% | 40% | 220 | Whole Soul Gem x1 | 80,000 | +54% |
+7 | 20% | 20% | 60% | 280 | Whole Soul Gem x1 | 150,000 | +65% |

Cash items used in Upgrading
Fortunately there are items that aid in upgrading.
Here's the popular Protect Scroll. As it says in the description, it protects the item when it fails. In other words, your item won't be destroyed. Keep in mind though, the protect scroll doesn't prevent your item from being fixed. Also, these scrolls are quite pricey, whether you're buying them with gold or noscash. I've often seen people sell them for 1,000,000 gold+.
This is the fixed level scroll. Whenever you have your item in a fixed state, this will be the only way to unfix it so you can continue upgrading. This item is also quite pricey. I usually see them in the shops sold for 800k gold+. It's not cheap to upgrade your item to +10. When I'm upgrading, I usually use these cash items after +5.
Conclusion
Well, there you have it! Yes, I know it's pricey. If you're one of those people that doesn't buy cash, then you're going to have to make some gold and just buy the item fully upgraded. I haven't seen a +10 yet. The most I've seen is +8, but even that's impressive...
Excellent post man!
